Article: Language Learning Tips
Aaron speaks English, Spanish, French, and
is learning Thai. He offers 16 tips on how to develop habits for successful
language learning. Many people think learning languages is hard work. Also,
some people think learning another language is not necessary. Aaron gives
examples of how you can blend learning a language into your daily life so it
will not seem so much like work. If you keep at it, you will soon gain
confidence and see your language skills improve. If you never leave your
‘world,’ then perhaps learning another language is not necessary. But if you
want to travel, meet different people, obtain a better job, or exercise you
mind, learning a language is helpful.
Many people think that learning a language
is difficult—but many people in the world are bilingual and trilingual. How do
they do it? Maybe if you follow Aaron’s tips, you can do it. What do you think?
You do not need to speak the language
perfectly and be in a country where the language is spoken to learn it. You
just need to learn the basics to communicate what you want. So do not worry
about making mistakes. If you never open your mouth to talk because you are
afraid or embarrassed about making a pronunciation or grammar mistake, you will
actually slow down your learning.
Do not waste time memorizing dictionary
lists of words you will seldom see or need. Just focus on what is useful for
you and you will progress faster. As Aaron says, make practice part of your
daily life. Try spending 30 minutes a day for 3 months and then evaluate
whether or not you have made progress.
